Availability of CE Declaration of Conformance

| Hello All
In Europe, are manufacturers required to make available to the public
their Declaration of Conformance for any products they sell?
The reason I ask - we are concerned that there is an EMC problem with
a product we buy, and have asked the manufacturer for a copy of the DoC
so we can see what standards are relevant. They have refused to send us
one, saying we can view the DoC at their offices in Germany (we are in
the UK). This seems a little unreasonable but I would like to establish
what the rules are before taking it further
Thanks

It was a reasonable request and (unless there has been a change in the
directives) you should expect to get a copy of the Declaration of
Conformance for the asking. If you are having a problem persuading them to
do that which is required by law then contact your local Trading Standards
Office who should be able to get this matter resolved for you. The
Declaration should also be available in every language of the EC.

It smells like something suspicious. If they want to sell their
product to you, they should be happy to send you a copy of the DoC, if
it is valid. I would look for another source of the same type of
product.

This is what is puzzling me - an initial search of the directives and
guidelines only found, from:-
http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterpris...ion/guide/docum
ent/1999_1282_en.pdf
"The EC declaration of conformity must be made available to the
surveillance authority immediately upon request."
>The

I thought it just had to be in one of the official languages. Ours are
only in English, for example. From the above document - "The EC
declaration of conformity must be drawn up in one of the official
languages of the Community"

Quite. I'm pretty sure they are wriggling, we just need to force their
hand to solve the EMC problem. We know they can solve it technically,
and the solution only costs about 5% of product RRP, they're just being
a bit silly about it.
The trouble is that otherwise we really like their products.
