| This may not be the correct newsgroup but here goes. Where can I buy carbon
bushes for the heater blower motor in my car. The bushes are 8mm x 9mm
cross section. and have a copper braid out of the top. I understand I may
have to buy a larger section and file it down. Ideally if someone could
point me in the direction of a stockist with a good web site or cataogue.
Many thanks in advance.

If you can find a pair of old 6 volt zinc-carbon batteries - the
type that are about 3x3x6" high - just open them up and recover the
carbon rod down the middle. Heat it in a propane torch flame to
burn off all the oily mess and, when cool, file or grind to shape.
the terminal wires can press against the end instad of being buried
in the carbon.

I'm not sure where in the world you are, but try a local hardware store,
or a vacuum cleaner/sewing machine/small appliance repair shop. Many
hand-held power tools and small appliances use motors that have brushes
in them, and you might find something close there. An "official" electric
motor shop will have brushes too, but they might be huge relative to
what you need. You might also ask in sci.electronics.repair ; if you
say where you are, someone might be better able to advise a local
source.
