| hi all..
iam stuck in a gruesome situation..have placed orders for some heavy
duty wood working machinery from US.Most of these involve 3ph,220v,60hz
motors but i need to operate them at 220v,3ph,50hz supply.
can anyone please advice me on what will happen to the production(
efficiency wise.) in this case.

Start with the manufacture of the equipment.

The motors will run 20% slower. As the machines probably have speed
control it may not matter, they may have inverter drives and/or
gearboxes/pulley systems to vary the speed.
Most inverter drives will accept 50 or 60Hz.
As the standard European 3 -phase supply is 400 v you will probably
also need a 3-phase transformer.

yes i know according to the basic equation of electrodynamics it wil
run at 5/6 of its speed at 60hz. what am more concerned is that will
the machines produce the desired degree of finish and quality as they
do when operated at 60hz.

Start with the machine manufacturer. Maybe they can suggest a
different gear ratio or whatever if it makes a noticable difference.
You might also have to worry about overheating if the motors are not
specifically rated to operate on 50Hz service (assuming they are
induction motors operating directly from the 3-phase power and not
VFDs). This can be solved by reducing the voltage by 20% using a
transformer, but the available motor horsepower will go down
proportionally.

getting in touch with the manufacturer.Will get back to you once i talk
