Author Will I need a CE mark for a microprocessor evaluation board?

Hi,

I thinking of developing a small microprocessor evaluation board for
use in the hobby/education market.

The unit is a single unenclosed PCB that will be powered via it's USB
interface. It will have a small amount of I/O for connection to 3V motors
switches, LEDs etc.

Would such a unit require certification. If so what standards
would it need to comply with?

Thanks.

If the maximum voltage is less than 50VAC and 75VDC it will be outside the
scope of the LOw Voltage Directive.
If you intend to use a mains operated power supply with the unit, this must
as a minimum have a CE mark, but I would recommend you use one with a
European approval for example TUV, VDE, BSI etc, as with these you know the
unit has been tested to the requirements of the LVD and should be safe to
operate at the rating shown on the unit, (do not use one with only a UL
approval as this does not meet the requirements of the LVD).

Best regards

BillB.
